Seeking Shade, gouache and water-soluble pencil on paper. This is one of a series of pieces that I made this year, inspired by my trip to Japan. This piece was developed from a drawing I made in Kinosaki Onsen, a hot spring town located a few hours north of Kyoto. It depicts ‘Goshono-Yu’, one of our favourite onsens, and I remember it was a beautifully sunny day. The warmth is reflected in the burnt orange foliage, set against the cooling blue of the building.
